Join the Future of Wrestling

. The first practice of the 2024โ€“25 Bruins Wrestling season feels like it just happened yesterday. The gym was buzzing with energy as athletes laced up their shoes, shook off the first-day nerves, and prepared to put in the work. That practice set the tone for everything that followedโ€”not just in terms of physical training, but also in the culture of commitment and unity that defines MVHS Bruins Wrestling.

Coaches Set the Standard

From the very first whistle, the coaching staff made it clear what was expected: effort, discipline, and respect. Practices werenโ€™t just about drilling takedowns or running conditioningโ€”they were about building habits that last. The message was simple: show up ready to work, give your best every day, and the results will follow.

Athletes Answered the Call

Our wrestlersโ€”some brand new, others seasoned veteransโ€”stepped onto the mat eager to learn. For newcomers, it was the first taste of the sportโ€™s intensity. For returning wrestlers, it was a chance to set the pace and lead by example. You could feel the mix of excitement, nerves, and determination as everyone pushed through the warmups, drills, and conditioning.

The Start of a Brotherhood and Sisterhood

What made that first day special wasnโ€™t just the trainingโ€”it was the sense of family that started forming immediately. Wrestlers encouraged each other through tough drills, shared laughs during breaks, and celebrated small victories, like hitting a move correctly for the first time. Those early bonds grew into the brotherhood and sisterhood that carried the team through the seasonโ€™s highs and lows.

Growth From Day One

Looking back now, itโ€™s amazing to see how far each wrestler came from that first practice. Skills improved, strength increased, and confidence soared. Athletes who were nervous on Day One ended the season competing with grit and determination. That growth is what wrestling is all aboutโ€”stepping outside your comfort zone and realizing youโ€™re capable of more than you thought.

Why the First Practice Matters

The first practice is always a fresh start, a reminder that wrestling is a journey, not just a season. Itโ€™s where goals are set, bonds are built, and a team begins to take shape. For the Bruins, that first day of the 2024โ€“25 season laid the foundation for everything that followedโ€”hard-fought matches, personal breakthroughs, and unforgettable memories.

As we look ahead to the upcoming 2025โ€“26 season (Novโ€“Feb), weโ€™re excited to welcome a new group of wrestlers and start the process all over again. That first practice will once again be the spark that lights a season full of growth, grit, and greatness.

About

Wrestling is one of the oldest and most respected sports, combining strategy, skill, and athleticism. It challenges both the body and mind, teaching endurance, discipline, and mental toughness. Beyond the mat, wrestlers gain life skills like perseverance, respect, and confidence. More than a sport, wrestling shapes character, builds friendships, and fosters success on and off the mat.
